 Bad Power March 10, 2010
Good price, but it's clear why. I've only had this adapter a week or so and I'm already having issues. Slightly shifting the position of my laptop somehow stops the power flow and I have to fight with and twist the plug/cord to get it working again. Sometimes the power flow just seems to stop for no good reason, too. I feel like I'm constantly having to adjust it to keep it working, and I worry that the adapter will soon just quit on me entirely.

After my official Mac charger bit the dust, I opted for the Dekcell charger since, $15, y'know, why not? Customer service was no problem - less than a week after ordering, it was in my mailbox, well packaged and all that.
My PowerBook was pretty much dead (the battery life on it has been reduced to maybe a good 30 seconds over the years), and whaddya know, this thing totally brought it back! While it worked, I actually liked it better than the adapter that came with my Mac - the connection to the power port on laptop fits snuggly, much more so than Apple's adapter, which was prone to slip out. The charger portion of the unit is fairly small, and easier to lug around than Apple's own power block. It's worth noting that it lacks any form of LED to show if it's connected (more on that later), charging, or fully-charged.
Unfortunately, about two weeks later the faults came through. The connection between the power block and the AC cord is extremely loose - I'm almost convinced that, at best, it barely makes the metal contacts necessary for the whole thing to work. The cord slipping out is just a minor annoyance, though - the fact that the thing no longer works is a whole other problem. I tried using other, better made power cords (a PS2 cord with the figure-8 plug end fits pretty well), and for a time it actually started to work again. But as soon as I had brought it back, there it went.
I can't really pinpoint just what is wrong with this adapter, but it really seems there's some sort of build fault within its components - I figured it was the cord at first, but using a better cord didn't bring the thing back for long. Applying pressure on the included AC cord/power block connection sometimes (sometimes!) brings the whole thing back to life, but not for long and not without some less-than-reassuring sparks.
Maybe this will work for you, though! Mine could be some rare fluke. I just probably wouldn't chance it again.
2 stars for being nice while it lasted. Add or subtract a star if wasting $15/using a short lived adapter is worth it to you!

I thought I was really getting a bargain with this one, but as it turns out you get what you pay for here. After using the charger twice on my Powerbook G4, the adapter partially melted!! This not only makes it worthless because it quit working, but it also endangered the safety of my roommates and myself!! Guess it's worth spending the extra $40 to get something that won't kill me!

Our ibook has an old battery, so it only keeps for 45 min to an hour, so we have it plugged in most of the time. My wife is especially hard on the cord for some reason. It's lasted, and the tip hasn't broken like the last two we've had. As long as it keeps charging then I'm not happy. Good for the price.
